TravelManagers has not long pulled in from their exclusive famil with Great Southern Rail after qualifying personal travel managers got to experience the first class service Great Southern Rail lays on for its customers. Pru Gallagher from TravelManagers' national partnership office explains.

"Due to the train tracks being washed out the week prior 250km north of Alice Springs alternative arrangements had to be made to transport us by coach from Darwin to Katherine where we met the Ghan. While initially there was disappointment from the team, it allowed us a unique insight into just how professional Great Southern Rail is."

Personal travel manager Jeremy Ferguson says Great Southern Rail deserve the praise for the way in which they handled the situation.

"They were incredibly efficient and apologetic, providing each guest with a letter outlining the situation plus they provided guests a complimentary Katherine Gorge cruise, a bottle of wine with dinner and offered a 50 percent discount on a subsequent trip with Great Southern Rail. Everyone we talked to was impressed and the disappointment was replaced with admiration for a job well handled. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the trip to my clients."

Once on board the TravelManagers' team travelled in Gold Class (twin berth) with their own private facilities, turn down service, butler and tea service in the morning before breakfast. Another personal travel manager, James Hermiston described it as a thoroughly enjoyable experience.

"Rail really is a magnificent way to travel. There is something very glamorous about it and of course it is great value for money too. The trip is becoming more popular every year and now having had first hand experience of the Ghan it just makes it that much easier to sell the product to my clients."

There were many highlights following the welcome cocktail party once they were onboard.

"The food is superb, the scenery simply spectacular especially sitting back, relaxing and watching the landscape change with the light, whilst learning about the history of the Ghan and its wild outback and explorers. I would certainly recommend the Ghan as a brilliant way to experience train travel with an Australian flavour."
