Six new PTMs share insights from their first year at TravelManagers

We know that taking the leap to run your own business is undoubtedly nerve-wracking, so we asked some personal travel managers (PTMs) about their experience in their first year with us, and why it’s the best decision they’ve ever made.

1. The financial rewards are yours for the taking

For many of our PTMs, the biggest factor for joining TravelManagers is our commission split. You can choose either a 90-10 or 80-20 split depending on your circumstances, and there’s uncapped earning potential. In 2024, forty percent of our PTMs achieved annual sales of more than one million dollars, with almost one-third of those PTMs achieving more than two million dollars in sales. Our top 50 performing PTMs in 2024 each earned more than $300,000 in commissions.

“The commission split options were a major incentive for me – along with having no joining fee.”

“I liked having the choice of two possible models for commission split so I could choose which one was best for my business. TravelManagers’ 90-10 commission split model is better than other mobile travel brands I looked at, and overall, it’s just a better offering.”

2. Overcoming the fear factor is easier when you’re not doing it alone

We’re not going to sugarcoat the fact that making a major change in your career can be very scary. It’s natural to fear the unknown and to worry about the ‘what ifs’. However, with a community of over 480 PTMs across Australia, we’ve got the experience (and the stories) to help you tackle those fears head-on and take a confident leap forward in your travel career. You’re not in this alone – we’ve got your back!

“The transition to owning my own business has not always been easy, but I would 100 percent do it all over again. Within fifteen minutes of beginning my induction training, I knew that I had made the right decision. What you cover is quite broad, but there are so many resources and people to follow up with.”

“I was a Galileo user for fourteen years, so I was a bit worried about making the switch to Amadeus. However, I had all the support and training I needed – now that I’m up and running, I can see why it’s so much better!”

“It helped that I knew a few people who had already joined TravelManagers; speaking to them helped to ease my uncertainties and solidify my decision. It was a leap of faith to make the move, but looking back, work-wise it’s the best decision I’ve ever made.”

3. Unparalleled support across every aspect of your business

Each department is designed to help you with every aspect of your business, from our accounting team who reconcile your finances, to our ticketing team, on hand to answer any questions about airfares, we are here to help you every step of the way. Additionally, the Business Partnership Managers (BPMs) based in each state across Australia, are available for business support and to answer any of your questions. Everyone at TravelManagers’ National Partnership Office (NPO) is keen to help you and always available.

“When I was looking at setting up my own business, one of the things I was most worried about was how I would cope with the admin side of things. I was amazed to realise just how much back- and middle-office work would be taken off my hands when I joined. They take care of reconciling my accounts and processing my BSP returns, and even send me gentle reminders if I’ve forgotten to send something in. They really don’t get the credit they deserve for all that they do in the background – they’re always so on top of everything.”

“The support for me has been incredible. I love that I can just pick up the phone, everyone is so friendly and genuinely wants to help, and you never feel like you’re an inconvenience. From the moment I joined, the support from NPO has been invaluable – far more than I ever expected – and my local community of PTMs has been great to tap into as well.”

Thanks to PTMs Bryce Patrick (NSW), Hayley Wilson (SA), Chris Scott (WA), Tracey Mills (QLD), Ky Graham (VIC), who shared their views for this blog. For more information on joining TravelManagers, talk to one of our Business Partnership Managers.
